Dr. Michael Easley concludes our series "Joy No Matter What" with a teaching from Philippians 4:20-23.

Dr. Michael Easley teaches from Philippians 4:20-23

“Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.”

Most of us as fathers have disappointed and hurt our children. I’ve done it. Done things I so wish I could reel back, we’re sinful people. Why is it the father is such a powerful force in a person’s life?

The father is a very powerful figure, absent or present, engaged or disengaged, involved or uninvolved, in every person’s life. Therefore, the father wound hurts. It leaves impresses and scars. Maybe you have that.

Why did the God of the universe choose the language of the Father and the Son? Why do we read in scripture that He’s our God and Father?
He’s perfect. He’ll never disappoint. He’s always trustworthy and reliable. He’s everything a human, sinful person cannot be.

No matter your experience, disappointment, hurt—and some I know have been horribly abused by your father—please hear me: you have a God who is a perfect Father. He loves you and knows all about you. God knows your strengths, weaknesses, liabilities, fears, anxieties, gifting, and He loves you. He knows what’s happened to you and He loves you. He knows you’re a fallen creature in a fallen context and He loves you.

And Paul says he’s our God.

In a growing, maturing Christian life, you and I always need to be asking: where do I need to grow and where do I need to mature?
