Serve Him Faithfully: Mark 10:42-45

  • The attitude and encouragement of those we serve can greatly impact our willingness to serve.
  • Understanding the vision and purpose of serving helps motivate us to serve faithfully.
  • Jesus is the ultimate example of a servant and calls His followers to serve others.
  • Serving should be characterized by humility, contrasting the world’s view of power and rank.
  • Faithful service leads to greater responsibility and trust from God.
  • Serving when no one is watching demonstrates integrity and faithfulness.
  • Love is the motivation for serving others.
  • Service is directed toward Christ, not just the people we serve.

Excerpt From The Sermon

“Perhaps we struggle with so many things because we’re not faithful with what He has given us. I learned years ago, more money is not the solution to most of our problems. It’s using the money we have wisely. We’re not going to get more time in life. It’s using the time we have. I may not get more talent. You may have more talents than me. That’s not going to solve my problem. It’s how I use what God has given me, understanding my unique limitations, gifts, strengths, and abilities, and using those to serve God, that’s what it’s about.

Only then do we have the balance of time, talent, and treasure as we serve the body of Christ and we serve others. We began with the question, if I know who I serve and I know why I serve, will I serve better? Will I serve more willingly? Will I serve at all? And I like to answer that with, who do I serve, Christ or myself? It’s a decision you have to make every day when you hit the floor. Am I going to serve myself today or serve my Lord, the audience of one?

And secondly, why do I serve? Do I serve out of a love response? Do I serve because I love God and I want to serve Him and I want to be faithful? Or do I serve because I ought or I should or I feel guilty or it’s a work thing? Those are all the wrong reasons. We serve because we love Him and because of all He has done for us.”
