Summary:

Christians don’t lack access to Scripture—we often lack application. In this episode of inContext, Michael Easley sits down with Dr. Benjamin Glad to explore a powerful new resource designed to change how we read the Bible. Their conversation centers on Connecting Scripture in the New Testament, a unique study Bible that visually connects the Old and New Testaments through thousands of cross-references, quotations, and allusions.

Rather than offering traditional commentary, this resource highlights how deeply the New Testament is rooted in the Old—revealing over 3,000 allusions that most readers miss. Dr. Glad explains how these connections don’t replace what we know but enrich it, helping readers see Scripture as one unified story.

The conversation moves beyond interpretation into transformation. When believers begin to read the Bible not as observers but as participants, everything changes. The story of Israel becomes our story, and the work of Christ becomes deeply personal.

Ultimately, this episode is a call to move from knowledge to action—to close the gap between understanding Scripture and living it out. Because the goal isn’t just to study the Bible—it’s to be changed by it.

Takeaways:

  • Most Christians appreciate Scripture but struggle to actually apply it in daily life.
  • The New Testament contains over 3,000 Old Testament allusions that deepen its meaning.
  • Understanding Scripture’s connections enriches—not replaces—what we already know.
  • Jesus fulfills the Old Testament in both explicit and subtle, layered ways.
  • Reading the Bible as a participant, not an observer, leads to real transformation.
  • Application begins when we see God’s story as our story.
