Were The Angels Made as Beasts of The Field?
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. And as far as I understand, Satan was (is) an angel. Were the angels made as beasts of the field?
Excerpt From The Answer
The Genesis account does not mention the creation of angels. Keep in mind, God did create angels. So, to the question, we have nothing in Scripture that addresses the specific time of their creation and we have no indication that animals became angels. Most Bible students and scholars hold a variety of times when God created angels. It seems best to understand they were created by God “in the beginning” and quite possibly, to carry out His creation work.
By the time Scripture includes angels, we have both good and evil. Satan seems to have been the highest-ranking angel who usurped his place and wanted to be like God. In Job 2:1 (oldest book) God and Satan have a kind of conversation. In Genesis 3:15 God judges Satan who used the serpent to tempt Eve. Traditionally, we use two key passages to explain Satan and his minions’ rebellion. Isaiah 14:12-17, (note the 5 ‘I wills’) and Ezekiel 28:11-19. In recent years, some respected Bible scholars have discounted these passages, but I maintain they have merit. Ultimately, we have all the information we need within scripture to live a life of faithful obedience to God and to walk in relationship with Him.
