Does The Bible Affirm The Existence of Ghosts?
My question is about ghosts. In Luke 24, Jesus says he is not a ghost because ghosts (or spirits) do not have flesh and bones. I wondered what or who the ghosts are that Jesus is referencing? I have respected Christian friends who believe that they’ve seen ghosts of their loved ones. I’ve heard others who say these encounters are all demonic or imaginary. It seems Jesus acknowledges that there are ghosts/spirits in this passage. What are your thoughts on this topic?
Excerpt From The Answer
“In Luke 24:39 they were startled and frightened thinking He was a spirit. Jesus says, ‘a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have’ He dispels their misunderstanding, He is no ghost. Simply, He is truly Jesus because He has flesh and bone, unlike a spirit. I suspect some of what people say today about ghosts is a form of animism. They believe in a spirit world or an unseen world. This means things like spirits in deep water, forests, and even ancestors. As to what they are, I agree they are either imaginary or demonic. Seeking out ghosts, demons, dabbling in sorcery, witchcraft, communication with the dead, are all dangerous.”
