“Some people will say Christianity and science are somehow at odds. That’s just a clear indicator of ignorance of the real history of science. You can go back to 1 Thessalonians 5:21, where Paul says, test all things, hold fast what is good. That is what the late Nobel Prize winning physicist Richard Feynman calls the key to science. In a very famous video clip, he says, ‘When we want to understand how something in the natural world works, first we guess, then we make predictions of what we ought to see if the guess is right. Then we actually observe things in the natural world and we compare the observations with the predictions.’

If the observations contradict the predictions, then the guess is wrong. And it doesn’t matter how smart you are or how beautiful the guess is, and I would add, how many other people agree with you, which is itself a logical fallacy, if the observations contradict the predictions, the guess is wrong. Guess is the best word for hypothesis, right? Hypothesis sounds more sophisticated, but that’s what it is, right?”

Dr. Beisner is Founder and National Spokesman of The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, a network of over 60 Christian theologians, natural scientists, economists, and other scholars educating for Biblical earth stewardship, economic development for the poor, and the proclamation and defense of the good news of salvation by God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.

In 2014 the Heritage Foundation honored Dr. Beisner with the Outstanding Spokesman for Faith, Science, and Stewardship Award at the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change.
