Summary:

Nancy Guthrie joins Michael Easley and Hanna Seymour for a thoughtful conversation on suffering, Bible teaching, and faithful stewardship. Nancy shares how the devastating loss of two children transformed her understanding of God’s Word, driving her deeper into Scripture and eventually shaping a ministry centered on biblical literacy rather than personal testimony. While her story opened doors, she explains why she intentionally chose to make the Bible—not herself—the focus of her ministry.

The conversation explores what it means to faithfully teach Scripture, from careful preparation and theological training to developing sound hermeneutics. Nancy explains her study process, emphasizing repeated reading, understanding the original author’s intent, identifying the gospel connection, and prayerfully applying the text to today’s audience without distorting its meaning.

Michael and Hanna also discuss the growing desire among women to teach the Bible. Nancy encourages aspiring teachers to prioritize preparation over platform, reminding listeners that faithful ministry often begins in small groups rather than large audiences. She stresses the importance of learning under church leadership, embracing accountability, and continually growing as a student of Scripture.

The episode concludes with Nancy introducing Beholding Christ, her new Bible reading resource designed to help believers understand every part of Scripture while seeing how the entire Bible points to Jesus Christ.

Takeaways:

  • Personal suffering can deepen our understanding of Scripture when it drives us toward God’s character instead of away from Him.
  • Effective Bible teaching begins with faithful preparation long before opportunities to teach ever arrive.
  • Christian leaders should pursue biblical faithfulness over platform, popularity, or personal recognition.
  • Sound Bible study seeks the original author’s intent before making modern application.
  • Every believer can grow in biblical literacy by learning to see how all Scripture points to Jesus Christ.
  • Faithful ministry flourishes under humility, accountability, and the authority of the local church.
