When Grace Makes You Angry: Jonah 2:1-9

with Michael Easley
What if God's Grace makes you angry? What if God, by the demonstration of His kindness and mercy, shows someone grace that you or I think are not deserving? How do we respond to that? How do we ask for God's grace for people we hate? That's at the crux of Jonah's complaint. Michael teaches through the book of Jonah.

What if God’s Grace makes you angry?

What if God, by the demonstration of His kindness and mercy, shows someone grace that you or I think are not deserving? How do we respond to that?

The Toddler Christians’ Creed

‘If I want it, I expect You to give it; If I have it, I expect to keep it If I want more, I expect You to give me more; If you have it and I want it, You have to give it to me; If I had it a while back and lost it, You have to give it back to me. If I’m involved in something, it has to be all about me.’ We can learn much after we sin and are forgiven. He died not to make us merely happy; He died to make us holy. Where do we get the idea that holiness comes through happiness?

Lessons

  1.  We cannot escape God’s presence.
  2. We cannot thwart God’s sovereignty.
  3. We can learn after we sin; He forgives us.
  4. We can be used by God to accomplish His will.
  5. We all need constant reminders of God’s grace.

How do we ask for God’s grace for people we hate? That’s at the crux of Jonah’s complaint.

It’s very dangerous to evaluate who we think does or doesn’t deserve grace, because you and I don’t deserve grace.

Christ did not come to make bad men good. He came to make sinful men holy. We all deserve hell and He’s gracious to offer us heaven.
