A Deeper Healing (John 5:1-17)
Michael originally taught ‘A Deeper Healing’ (John 5:1-17) at Immanuel Bible Church.
- Jesus offers more than our preoccupations and asks if we truly want to get well.
- Jesus is deliberate and unpredictable in his actions.
- We don’t have to get better to get well; Jesus offers the solution to our hopelessness.
- Jesus is in the seeking business and offers eternal life.
- Put your trust in Jesus for salvation and eternal life.
Excerpt From The Sermon
“Jesus knew the man had been 38 years in his illness. And He says, do you want to get well? To a hopeless person, that would be a wonderful question, it would seem. The spiritual realm is the man’s greatest problem, though. The physical parallel is very pointed and telling.
Do not people who do not know Christ think they are well? People who have no need of God think they are well. And sometimes it takes the understanding that they are sick spiritually before they will look for a cure. Sometimes people don’t want to know. Maybe you have a history of heart disease or breast cancer or other kinds of cancers or diabetes in your family.
And you don’t even want to get checked because you might, too, discover that you have that disease. People live in a sort of medical denial. We do the same spiritually. Think of the number of people who live in sin and think it’s ok.”
