Lead With Prayer

with Cameron Doolittle
Cameron Doolittle joins Michael to discuss his book, Leading With Prayer, and the value of leaders that pray.

Excerpt From The Interview

“I think the first thing that was surprising and somewhat disappointing was the number of prominent Christian leaders who felt like their prayer life was not one that they wanted to be willing to share and put on display. And you think, oh man, these are people that are leading, you know, big movements and names that we’d know. And if there’s not the walk with God, they’d be delighted to be letting others in, then let that be a lesson for all of us. How do I start with myself and have the kind of prayer life that I wouldn’t mind answering some questions about?

The first thing is for us to get with God. I think John Piper talks about his first thing every day is to get his soul happy in God so that he can do the rest of the work. One of our interviewees, David Denmark, is the head of the McClellan Foundation. He was trying to start a movement of prayer. He kind of sensed this subtle word from God when it wasn’t working out that well. And God kind of nudged him and said, it’s because you’re trying to multiply by zero. You can’t multiply prayer in others if you’re not having the kind of prayer life that you would desire.

That led to a lot of softness on David’s part. He started every work day just spending 30 minutes on his knees in front of a chair just trying to be with God. Then out of that led to him bringing in his senior team for more prayer so that he could start to inculcate a culture of it across his organization. And so we want to be these people that it starts with us.”
