If Jesus Was Fully God on Earth, How Was He Able to Coexist With Sinful People?
Q: Hi Dr. E, I appreciate your ministry and have a question I hope you can answer for me. I am a Christian and was talking with another Christian about Jesus being fully God and fully man. He said he was struggling with that concept because he believes that we are separated from God and unable to coexist with him in Heaven because of our sin. So, if Jesus was fully God on earth, how was he able to coexist with sinful people? I struggled to find a good explanation and hope you can provide one for me. God bless you for your ministry and thank you for taking my question.
Summary
How can Jesus be fully God and fully man while living among sinful people? In this episode, Dr. E explains why the incarnation is the foundation of the gospel and the only way humanity could be redeemed.
Beginning with Glenn’s thoughtful question, Dr. Easley unpacks key passages including 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Peter 3:18, Colossians 2:9, Galatians 4:4, and John 1:14. Together, these verses reveal that Jesus was fully God and fully man, yet completely without sin. Rather than becoming defiled by sinful people, Christ came to bear their sin on the cross.
Dr. Easley emphasizes that Jesus’ humanity, perfect righteousness, and divine nature uniquely qualified Him to be our Redeemer. He shares a powerful quote from John Stott: “If he had not been man, he could not have redeemed men. If he had not been a righteous man, he could not have redeemed unrighteous men. And if he had not been God’s Son, he could not have redeemed men for God.”
The conversation also explores why stronger theological teaching matters in the local church and recommends practical resources for studying Christology. This episode reminds believers that the incarnation is not merely a Christmas doctrine—it is the very reason salvation is possible.
