Should We Pray to God, Jesus, or Both?
Hey Hanna and Dr. E. I love your podcast. I have a quick question. Do we pray to God, do we pray to Jesus, or do we pray to both?
Excerpt From The Answer
“Scripture seems clear: we pray to the Father. Luke 11 is fascinating. The disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray just as John also taught his disciples. They saw something in John the Baptist’s disciples’ prayer lacking in their own. And as one of my professors pointed out, it is the only thing the disciples ever asked them to teach them. And we all know it begins, Father or Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name… The focus of the prayer is on God the Father and remember, this is Jesus teaching them how to pray, aka The Disciple’s Prayer.
Hebrews 4:14-16 explains we approach God through Jesus, the Son of God. It says, ‘Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
