In part 7 of the seek, serve, share series from Immanuel Bible Church, Michael looks at the essence of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Share Him Boldly: The Essence of The Gospel
- If we’re not clear in our presentation of the Gospel, we may not understand it.
- The Gospel should be communicated boldly and clearly, using language that can be understood by those who do not know Christ.
- The term ‘Gospel’ has various descriptive designations in the New Testament, such as the Gospel of grace, the Gospel of the Kingdom, and the Gospel of peace.
- Boldness in proclaiming the Gospel is a courage born out of trust in God.
Excerpt From The Sermon
“The fact that Jesus Christ died is substitutionary in nature. He died for us, instead of us, on our behalf. He was buried. Why is it important that He was buried? You don’t bury a person that’s not dead. You bury dead things lest they stench. The proof of His death is His burial.
Now the phrase occurs there, ‘According to the scriptures’ when it talks about Him dying. This goes back to Isaiah 53, which contains clear prophetic references that Christ was going to die. Thirdly, He’s raised according to the scriptures. The clearest reference I would point to would be Psalm 16:10, that He was raised from the dead. And then lastly, He appeared. Why does it matter that He appeared again? The appearance proves the legitimacy of the death, burial, and resurrection. Why did He appear to a few, and then 500, and then thousands of people at Pentecost? Why is His appearance so important? It proves the authentication of His death, burial, and resurrection prior to His ascension.
