True Worship (John 4:20-42)

• God desires true worshipers who worship Him in spirit and in truth.
• Religion can prevent true worship by focusing on rituals and external practices.
• The woman’s testimony leads many Samaritans to believe in Jesus.
• Believers are called to be involved in God’s work and to seek true worship.

Excerpt From The Sermon

“If you’re a Bible student and you read the Gospel of John, when you see, ‘My hour has not yet come or My hour is upon me,’ He’s talking about His crucifixion. In this passage, He’s forecasting the crucifixion to the reader, the Samaritan, and the disciples later on. They’ll start to piece this all together as the ministry of Jesus unfolds the next couple of years. 

There will not be a temple. There will not be an altar. They will not burn sacrifices or incense. It won’t be with priests in robes at a special location. It will not be in Jerusalem or Gerizim. You’re going to worship the Father. Interesting that He introduces the word Father here. He is going to teach His disciples how to pray, ‘Our Father.’ Up to this point, Jews didn’t call God Father. Jesus Christ inaugurated this.”
