How Should Women Biblically Respond to Prejudice?

Q: I came across a social media post about women voting. Can you shed any light on this biblically?

Yes, Eve was deceived, but wasn’t Adam given instructions before she even existed and as far as we know he was standing right next to her with the serpent there? Also, the Proverbs 31 women sounds like a leader, she is even buying and selling land. Or what about the woman who led an Army? I understand husbands have final authority over household decisions and ultimately women make better nurturers, but I am just wondering your thoughts on his arguments in the video and the role of women, not all are married or live under their father’s roof after all.

Seems like rather than taking away a women’s right to vote the root cause of the deception should be fixed. How should a woman respond to a man that agrees that women should not vote?

Summary

In this episode, Dr. E responds to a controversial video arguing that women should not have the right to vote, unpacking both the flawed logic and the deeper theological misunderstandings behind it. He cautions against blending political ideologies too closely with Christianity, emphasizing that while certain values may align with Scripture, no political party fully represents biblical truth.

Dr. Easley addresses common misuses of Scripture, including the story of Eve, the Proverbs 31 woman, and passages on submission and leadership. He clarifies that both men and women share responsibility in the fall, and that biblical teachings on marriage describe responses—such as sacrificial love and respectful submission—rather than rigid hierarchies to impose on society. He also highlights the many strong, influential women throughout Scripture who played vital roles in God’s story.

Ultimately, the conversation reframes the issue: the goal is not controlling cultural systems but cultivating discernment within the church. Christians are called to live faithfully, think critically, and engage culture with truth and love. No matter how chaotic the world becomes, believers can rest in the unshakable truth that Christ remains sovereign over all.

Takeaways:

  • Mixing political agendas with Christianity requires discernment and caution.
  • Scripture holds both men and women accountable, not one above the other.
  • Proverbs 31 reflects wisdom personified, not a rigid checklist for women.
  • Biblical roles in marriage are responses rooted in love, not control.
  • Strong, influential women are woven throughout the entire biblical narrative.
  • Christ’s sovereignty—not cultural chaos—anchors the believer’s confidence.
