How Does The Trinity Work if Jesus is God But Was Also Sent by God?
Q: I’m 63 and I still can’t comprehend what the Trinity actually means. I pray to Jesus but I thought God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is all one being?! But if they are all one being, why do they say God sent his Sin Jesus to die on the cross for our sins? I thought Jesus was God. I went to catholic school for seven years, I still can’t figure it out, Thank you
Summary
In this episode, Dr. E tackles one of Christianity’s most difficult and important doctrines: the Trinity. Responding to a listener who still struggles to understand how God can be Father, Son, and Holy Spirit while remaining one God, Dr. Easley explains that Christians do not worship three gods, but one God revealed in three distinct persons.
Using passages from Isaiah, Matthew, John, and 1 Corinthians, Dr. Easley walks through the biblical foundation for the Trinity and explains why the doctrine matters for salvation itself. The Father sends the Son, the Son dies and rises again, and the Holy Spirit convicts, indwells, and empowers believers. Together, the Trinity reveals both the unity and relational nature of God.
The conversation also addresses common misunderstandings like modalism and confusion surrounding terms like “persons” and “essence.” Rather than trying to reduce God to a simple illustration, Dr. Easley encourages believers to embrace both clarity and mystery. While Scripture clearly teaches the Trinity, some aspects of God remain beyond full human comprehension.
The episode closes with a humorous story about the phrase “Holy Ghost,” reminding listeners that theology can be both meaningful and approachable.
