Doctrine of Christology

Today we take a look at the gospel account written by Luke, the largest contributor to the New Testament. J. Sidlow Baxter observes: “Whereas the emphasis in Matthew is on what Jesus said, and in Mark on what Jesus did, here in Luke it is rather on Jesus Himself.”

How do you talk about Jesus Christ in a few moments and do any justice to the Doctrine of Christology? I won’t, but we will begin a beginning.

When we think about this doctrine of the Trinity – that there’s three persons in one Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – even for academics and Theologians, it’s a mind bending subject. It’s complicated. Yet, Scripture has a lot to offer about the relationship not only within the Trinity, but as human beings relate to God. Interestingly, apart from a Trinitarian Godhead, no one could be saved. In other words, if we don’t understand the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the role of those three persons; we don’t understand how a human being could be saved.

It’s interesting when faith finds its way into the Media. We have bylines and idioms that we use to talk about “Christianity” very broadly. There are so many groups that call themselves “Christian” that it begs the question: What is a true believer? In today’s episode Michael teaches about the Doctrine of the Trinity using supporting texts from Deuteronomy and Matthew.

In this episode, Michael addresses questions about Jesus as both man and God on earth, whether we can walk out of the hand of God after we’re secure in our salvation, whether Jesus’ blood atones for the sins of everyone or just for a select group, what Michael thinks about when people say they ‘hear from God,’ and Jephthah’s rash vow to sacrifice whatever walked out his door to greet him when he returned from battle.
