Excerpt From The Interview
“The idea of the imminent return of Christ at the rapture brings up two things. The number one thing you see all throughout the New Testament is a spirit of expectancy. The early church seemed to think that Jesus was going to come back at any time. Paul wrote to that effect; eagerly awaiting the return of our Lord, our citizenship is in heaven from which we eagerly await a savior. So that whole spirit of ‘O Lord come’ was there.
Martin Luther said, ‘If I knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow, I would plant a tree today.’ The idea is that I may see that tree grow into adulthood, into full maturity because I don’t know when He’s going to come back, but I want my heart to be ready. And I think Jesus very appropriately related the whole rapture scene in John 14:1-3 to the idea of a wedding motif. The Jewish groom would go away, and he would build a place at his father’s house, but the bride never knew the exact day that he would come and snatch her up and take her away to the Father’s House. She had an idea of the season, she just didn’t know the day.
God wants us to live each day with the gift of that day. And we’re not promised tomorrow, even if the rapture doesn’t happen, we’re still not promised tomorrow. So we still have to be intentional about living everyday for the Lord and enjoying every gift and day God’s given us.”
