The Testimony of John (John 1:19-28)
Michael originally taught ‘The Testimony of John’ at Immanuel Bible Church. In this sermon, Michael teaches through John 1:19-28.
- Our identity should be found in Christ, not in what we do for a living.
- True humility exalts a person in God’s eyes and focuses on Jesus rather than oneself.
- We should strive to consistently point others to Jesus in our words and actions.
- Our voices should be tuned to proclaim Jesus Christ and His message.
Excerpt From The Sermon
John the Baptist is attracting a lot of attention. And when someone attracts a lot of attention, success breeds an audience. People want to know what’s going on, so they go out to see. It’s true in churches, the business world, the military, and education circles. If you’re succeeding, people are going to come out to see what you’re doing. And there’s two kinds of people that come out, those interested in why it’s working and those who are critics. The same was true for John.
He’s out in the wilderness preaching his heart out and people are coming out, in large crowds. It’s sort of like if you had a little investment company. You’re starting to make a lot of money. The Securities and Exchange Commission would probably knock on your door. ‘How are you doing this? We want to know how.’ People take an interest when someone becomes successful.
