The Necessity of Being Born Again (John 3:1-8)
Michael originally taught ‘The Necessity of Being Born Again’ (John 3:1-8) at Immanuel Bible Church.
- Being born again is a necessary requirement to enter the kingdom of God.
- Religion alone is not enough; you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Looking to Jesus on the cross brings healing and redemption, just as the Israelites were healed by looking at the bronze serpent.
- Being born again is not a religious or political affiliation, but a personal relationship with Jesus.
Excerpt From The Sermon
“Nicodemus, as well as the Jewish community, thought of the end time in the kingdom of God, much like we do. Premil, postmil, amil, things are going to happen. An eschatology will be established. Jesus will return, okay? The Jews had their own way. Jesus isn’t talking about a sequence of events. He’s talking about eternality. They’re looking for eschatology. He’s talking about eternality.
You can’t see this eternal concept of God unless you’re born again. Nicodemus, with his knowledge, standing, position, Judaism, and brilliance, could not get into the kingdom unless he was born again. To see is to participate, to be in it with Him. Judaism will not evolve into salvation. Calvin says, ‘It follows that there is nothing that in us is not defective.’ Nicodemus was the best a religious community could offer, and he’s coming to Jesus at night to ask questions, and Jesus said, you are not going to get there unless you’re born again.”
