Does it Take Anything Besides Belief That Jesus is Lord to Get into Heaven?
Does it take anything besides belief that Jesus is Lord to get into heaven and can I do anything to get out of that?
Excerpt From The Answer
You know, we all start in the same place. We have to trust in Christ and Christ alone for our salvation. That’s the baseline. And we talk about Jesus’ work being efficacious, that it’s effective. If He died in our place, on our behalf instead of us, is that enough? Is that sufficient? And we trust in Christ, and Christ alone for that. And we know the verse John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him might not perish but have eternal life. So belief is the process. It’s the manner. It’s the way we embrace that innovation. The question is, well, what more do I have to do? And that’s where we get into legalism and religion, the idea that we’re trying to contribute. So if Christ’s death wasn’t sufficient, then we’re in big trouble because how do you know you’ve done enough?
Good works are our thank you back to God. Ephesians 2:10 is the most overlooked verse in the whole gospel. We know Ephesians 2:8-9, but we don’t know verse 10, ‘For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.’ We don’t perform good works to hang onto our salvation, it’s simply a response to what God already did through Jesus on the cross.
